Cheerleading
WPW CHEER is dedicated to the development of cheerleading skills for Westlake-area girls from Kindergarten through 6th grade. We provide instruction of cheerleading, dance routines, and tumbling in a FUN environment.
Our Cheer Squads cheer for the WPW Football Teams. WPW Cheerleading is divided into 2 main programs:
* COMPETITION CHEER SQUAD - A high level cheer team for the WPW Pee Wee Division 1 Football Team that also competes locally, regionally, and nationally in the Pop Warner Cheerleading Competitions. Requirements: Must be age 9 - 12 on July 31, 2012. Must have one year of previous cheerleading experience (with WPW, PW, Crush, Cheer Station, or other Cheerleading program). Must commit to participating in, and traveling to, all 3 Cheer Competitions (3rd weekend of October in Austin, Thanksgiving weekend in TBA Texas city, and 1st week of December in Florida). Must commit to 2 practices per week from August through October, then 3 practices per week from November to mid-December.
* SIDELINE CHEER SQUADS - Cheer Teams for all other WPW Football Teams. Squads not required to compete in cheer competitions. Requirements: Must be entering Kindergarten through 6th grade for the 2012/2013 school year. Must commit to 1-2 practices per week from August through October.
The 2011 Westlake Pop Warner Competition Squad won the Local Cheer Competition in Austin, the Regional Cheer Competition in Dallas, and traveled to Disney World to compete in the National Cheer Competition. We are so proud of them!
Our Cheer season starts August 1, 2012 with a 3-day Cheer Camp, and continues through October 2012 for all Sideline Cheer Squads, and through mid-December for the Competition Cheer Squad. There are 8 - 10 games that are played at Home (Westlake High School Stadium) and Away (surrounding areas such as Round Rock, Leander/Cedar Park, Hutto, Taylor, 4 Points, etc.).
The Cheerleading registration fee of $300 covers WPW expenses and Cheerleading Uniforms, which all cheerleaders keep at the end of the season. It is important that all cheerleaders attend one of the WPW Equipment/Cheer Uniform Days held in May 2012 to be properly fitted for uniforms.
Huge thanks and appreciation go out to Susan Parken, who volunteered her time, efforts, and talent to the Westlake Pop Warner Cheer program for 6 years as Cheer Director. Susan is resigning her Board Position, but will still be involved with the transition to our new Cheer Director, Heidi Sauer. Heidi was involved as a Cheer Coach for her daughter, Caroline's Mitey Mite Silver Cheer Squad, and was Team Mom for her son, Carter's Mitey Mite Silver Football Team in 2011. WPW is seeking CHEER COACHES for our 2012 season. If you are interested, please indicate on your registration form, or contact Heidi Sauer. No experience is necessary, just a commitment to our WPW community and cheerleaders. Cheer Coaches are able to pick which football team their squad is assigned.
